On June 22nd Dr. Allison Alexy delivered our third MJSP lecture of the spring semester titled: “Gender, Fantasy and the Price of Divorce”.
Her talk detailed how changing ideologies of what makes a good relationship and marriage in Japan intersect in complex ways in decisions to, and experiences of, divorce.
Her ethnographic descriptions allowed us to really feel the conflicts that divorcing individuals feel in navigating differing ideals and aspirations of romantic relationships,
and shed light on the complexities of divorce in the current moment.
Thank you very much, Dr. Alexy!
